The Tweeddale Legacy:
Alasdair Day talks about The Tweeddale whiskey and his great grandfather, Richard Day who blended The Tweeddale Whiskey at Coldstream on the River Tweed in the Scottish Borders from 1895 to the 1940s.
Back in 1820, bthe Reds John and Andrew Davidson their business in Coldstream, as brewers and merchants of wine and spirits.
The ran a licensed grocery store at 1 Duke Street where The Tweeddale Whiskey was born. This is where Richard Day ended 1895 as an office boy and learned the art of mixing. Through throughout his career he wrote down small details of numerous mixing recipes in his 'cellar book'.
In the year 1923, Richard Day took over the company from the brothers J&A Davidson. He ran it until the pre-WWII market slump, gradually sold his casks and retired. Alasdair Day inherited his great-grandfather's cellar book and began in 2010 to recreate The Tweeddale Whisky.
By using its original recipe of eight single malts and a single grain, The Tweeddale Whiskey was reborn.
