Taylor's Vintage 2003 Port

This Vintage 2003 is a top port and a top-top vintage, from the port house Taylor's. In short, everything is top notch. Robert Parker even gave this wine the legendary 100 points for a tasting in 2008.

Scent: Classic Taylor fragrance with exotic scents of violet and an impenetrable background of intense dark berry fruit.
Taste: Vintage Port 2003 shows a stylish and fresh taste, with a tight fabric of sinewy tannins and packed with concentrated grape flavors that intensify through the seemingly endless finish. Like many other great Taylor vintages, this wine is an archetype of restrained power. Its elegance and refinement hide massive inner strength and endurance.

Taylor's Vintage 2003 is an absolute blockbuster which, according to Robert Parker, will proudly stand shoulder to shoulder with the finest ever made by Taylor's.

CLASSIC VINTAGE 2003:

The winter before the 2003 harvest was very wet. Flowering took place in bright warm weather at the end of May under some of the best conditions seen for several years. The first two weeks of August brought the intense summer heat that often precedes a great Port Vintage. The picking season in September was warm, dry and the yield was even across all grape varieties, which ensured balance and complexity in the wines.

What is port?:

Port wine is a fortified wine. Fortified wines are made by adding a portion of grape spirit or brandy to the wine at some point during the production process. Port is arguably the greatest of all fortified wines, and its most important expression, Vintage Port, ranks alongside the finest products from Bordeaux or Burgundy as one of the great iconic wines of the world.

In the case of Port wine, the brandy is added before the wine is fully fermented. This means that the wine retains some of the grape's natural sweetness, making it rich, round and smooth on the palate.

One of the fascinating aspects of port is its diversity of different styles. Each with its own distinctive flavours, from the intense berry fruit flavors of a Reserve or a Late Bottled Vintage to the rich softness of an aged Tawny or the sublime complexity of a Vintage Port. More than any other wine, port offers endless possibilities for combining food and wine.
