Taylor's Historical Limited Edition Reserve Tawny Port III

Taylor's Historical Limited Edition Reserve Tawny Port IIITaylor's celebrates its pioneering spirit and deep passion for port by launching this exclusive Historical Limited Edition. This special Reserve Tawny Port is created through a blend of red wine grapes grown in the Douro Valley in Portugal and has been aged in small oak barrels.

This unique port wine is presented in a historic bottle dating back to the 18th century and delivered in a beautifully crafted wooden box.

This blend is carefully composed of carefully selected Port wines from Taylor's impressive selection of oak-aged Tawny wines and has a unique character with the familiar fullness and aftertaste that Taylor's is known for.

The port displays a deep, brick-red color with a reddish tinge and a ripe, complex aroma that contains gentle nuances of plums, figs, marzipan and toffee. It also offers an elegant touch of cigar box, cedar and leather, which gives the fragrance an exotic touch. The taste is intense and refined, with a seductive fullness, softness and roundness as well as notes of fruitcake and fresh plums. These flavors are followed by subtle, well-integrated tannins and a long, pleasant aftertaste.

About the Manufacturer:

The story of Taylor's, originally known as Taylor, Fladgate & Yeatman, began in 1692 when Job Bearsley, an Englishman, traveled to Portugal to import table wine for his inn. At the time it was ordinary wine, made from grapes from northwestern Portugal. In the 1720s, Bearsley was one of the first English traders to explore the commercial opportunities of the Douro Valley.

In 1744 Bearsley's son, Bartholomew, acquired the first English vineyard in the Douro, which is still owned by Taylor's today. Ownership was later transferred to the American Joseph Camo during the Napoleonic Wars. Camo became a skilled businessman, sailing port wine to England even as Napoleon threatened. Joseph Taylor, who later gave the firm his name, became a partner and later owner in 1824.

In 1838 the firm was renamed Taylor Fladgate & Yeatman. John Fladgate and Morgan Yeatman managed the firm, and after Fladgate's death in 1889 it was run by the Yeatman family. One of John Fladgate's daughters married into the Guimarens family. There owners of Fonseca, and Taylor's current winemaker, David Guimarens, is a relative of this branch of the family.

After WWII the port industry struggled, but in the 1970s Taylor's launched 10, 20, 30 and 40 year tawny and invented LBV port in 1970. They also bought several wineries including Quinta de Terra Feita in 1974 and Quinta did Junco in 1997.

Taylor's remains independent and focuses on quality and innovation. Their wines are known to age for decades and have received high praise from reviewers such as Robert Parker. Taylor's is particularly known for their vintage ports, which they produce in declared vintages, and for their old tawny ports, which they occasionally bottle in special editions, such as the Very Very Old Tawny Port for Queen Elizabeth II's platinum jubilee.
