With its warm, golden glow, this Springbank 21 year Single malt Whiskey bottled in the month of July 2023 is inviting, creamy and offers incredible complexity. The maritime influence revealed in this single malt will take you on a journey to its home in Campbeltown.

According to Springbank's own description, this 2023 edition has spent 45% of its 21-year aging in ex-bourbon casks, then 20% of time in ex-rum casks, followed by 20% in ex-sherry casks and finally 15% of the total time in former port wine barrels.

Scent: Notes of citrus peel, pineapple upside-down cake and fudge. There is also a savory nuance with traces of baked game and the leaves of the tomato plant, while a subtle peat smoke.
Taste: You feel a tropical influence with notes of ripe mango, dried coconut and papaya. This opens up nuances of licorice, cola syrup, digestive biscuits, honey and a light earthiness.
Aftertaste: Long with notes of orange peel, campfire embers and caramel.

About the Distillery:

At Springbank, 3 distinct types of whiskey are produced, which differ on a number of parameters.

The classic one Spring bank has a light dry smoke. The smoke level is indicated (somewhat imprecisely) with a measurement of phenol in the finished malted barley and is approximately 10-15 "parts per million" (the malt is dried for 6 hours with peat smoke and 30 hours with hot air). Springbank is also distilled 2.5 times.

"Longrow” – a strongly smoked variant was first made in 1973. Here the smoke is up to 50-55 ppm, the malt is dried for 48 hours with peat smoke, and it is distilled twice.

The latest variant, Hazelburn, saw the light of day in 1997 when, for the first time, they tried completely unsmoked and triple-distilled whiskey.

Of the approximately 175,000 liters the small Campbeltown distillery produces per year, 80% is Springbank, approximately 10% Longrow and 10% Hazelburn.

Regardless of which variant you're after, Springbank is worth getting to know. It is the favorite distillery of many whiskey geeks and for good reason! As the only distillery in Scotland, they malt all the barley they need themselves. It is added never dye, and the whiskey cooling is not filtered.
