Distillery founder:

Founder John Hopkins, discovered a unique location in the heart of Speyside, ideal for making an exceptionally smooth whisky. The region was already famous for its whiskey. What John Hopkins brought to Speyside was an innovative spirit and the will to do things right. While searching for the perfect location for his distillery, Hopkins discovered the Granty Burn.

A pristine stream hidden in a secluded Speyside valley. He knew that the exceptionally pure water in this combustion would produce a remarkable whiskey with a naturally refreshing character. Hopkins built the Speyburn Distillery right there in the valley, using authentic river stones from the bed of the fast-flowing River Spey itself.

Over 100 years after its foundation, Speyburn is the only distillery to use the pure, crystal clear water of the Granty Burn.

Hopkins wanted to make his first whiskey for the year 1897. It had to be finished in time to toast Queen Victoria's 60th anniversary of her reign. Their first bottle was to bear the year 1897 on its label. With hard work and heroic efforts with his distillers he succeeded and was rewarded with the first cask of Speyburn whisky.

Today, 120 years later:

120 years since the first drop was distilled, Speyburn is now more than a whisky. Bold, bright and full of character.
