Sauternes Carmes De Rieussec Domaines de Rothschild

This Sauternes Carmes de Rieussec is sparkling clear in the glass with a faint orange rim. Nice scent of almonds, dried fruits and acacia flowers. The taste is lively and fresh with intense notes of figs and fresh apricot. A nice balance of sweetness and acidity results in a wine that boasts quality.

Serving temperature: 8-10°C

In the eighteenth century, Château Rieussec was owned by the Carmes monks, who give their name to this magnificent second wine. The château was sold to private property in 1790 and in 1855 at the great Bordeaux classification the château was owned by the Mayne family. Here, Château Rieussec was classified as 1er Grand Cru Classé 1855. The castle has lived up to this classification beautifully ever since. Judgment. Barons de Rothschild (Lafite) bought Château Rieussec in 1984 and have since invested heavily in both fields and production.

About the Vinhuset:

The castle currently has 90 hectares planted with 90% Semillon, 3% Muscadelle and 7% Sauvignon. The grapes for this wine are harvested over 27 days from the end of September. During the harvest, you go through each field 7 times and each time you only pick the grapes that are optimally attacked by Botrytis. 50% of the must was fermented in oak barrels and 50% in steel tanks. After fermentation, the wine was aged in French oak barrels, of which 50% were new. The bottling took place in February 2006 after 16 months in cask. The result is liquid nectar in the best class with a residual sugar content of 109 gr./ltr.

Domaines Barons de Rothschild: Owner today of Château Lafite Rothschild, which in the Médoc classification in 1855 was placed in the 1st Cru. In 1868, the castle was bought by Baron James de Rothschild and a new era in the castle's history began. Château Lafite Rothschild is still owned by the Rothschild family. The property covers an area of 100 ha, which has an annual production of 210 tonnes.

Alongside Château Lafite, the family also runs a large trading company in Bordeaux, where they own several different châteaux and produce different wines, all of which are typical of Bordeaux and Lafite. Over time, the castle has expanded its holdings in both Bordeaux, southern France and on other continents. They have thus acquired properties or entered into partnerships with wineries in Chile and Argentina. In the foreign companies, locals work together with the winemakers from Château Lafite to produce wines that are both typical for the individual area and for Lafite. In Pauillac, Lafite also has their own winery, where the oak barrels used for their barrel-aged wines come from.
