Sancerre Blanc Domaine Gerard Millet
Sancerre Blanc from the Loire with uplifting aromas of citrus fruits and white flowers
Experience: Delicious notes of different citrus fruits in the aroma which are repeated in the taste, which with its dryness is delicious and crisp, in a good balance between softness and minerality which goes well together and gives a delicious finish.
Serve with: Fish, shellfish, vegetarian dishes, sushi and mature cheeses.
The wine: The grapes are picked from vines that have an average age of approx. 30 years. The grapes are pressed for 4 days with cold stabilization. Fermentation takes place in tanks for 2 – 3 weeks. Aged in steel tanks from 6 – 9 months with slight settling.
The area:
Wine cultivation in Sancerre dates back to the year 582 according to the first historical evidence. During the 12th century, monks and counts began to grow grapes in earnest. The area of Sancerre was then famous for wines made from Pinot Noir. When Phylloxera wiped out most of the Pinot Noir vines, the winegrowers planted Sauvignon Blanc instead. The Sancerre area has an ideal climate for white wines.
Wine house:
Domaine Gerard Millet is located in Bué, just outside Sancerre. Family property that has been in the family's possession for five generations. They have 24 hectares of vineyards that go through the Sancerre and Menetou-Salon area. 80 % of the vineyards are with Sauvignon Blanc grapes and the rest the 20 % are with Pinot Noir vines. Their knowledge and familiarity with their terroir is what sets them apart from everyone else. This knowledge is clearly expressed in their wines. Each terroir/field has different characteristics, therefore each vineyard is harvested separately. Likewise, the grapes are treated individually in production.
