Serving temperature: 16-18°C.
The wine:
Saint Joseph Marandy is made from Syrah grapes and is harvested at optimal maturity in autumn. After the harvest, the stems are sorted from the grapes before they undergo a cold and gentle maceration (soaking). The alcoholic fermentation subsequently takes place at 26-28°C for a period of approx. 15 days. During fermentation, the grape must is pumped daily over the grapes to extract as much juice and power as possible from the wine. The grape marc is then pressed, before the wine undergoes a malolactic fermentation in oak barrels, followed by 6 months of aging also in oak barrels.
About the Vin house:
Saint-Joseph, which can be traced back to the 16th century and is said to be named after the patron saint of cowed husbands, is situated on the right side of the Rhône river in the hilly landscape at the foot of the Massif Central. The soil in the area is characterized by black slate and granite, which gives the wines a nice character.
In the northern valley of the Rhône district, the Mistral wind blows daily and cools the grapes during the day. The warm inland climate provides only limited precipitation in the summer months. The only red grape variety here in the north is Syrah, which is often seen mixed with green grapes to soften it up a bit. However, this Saint-Joseph wine is produced 100% from the area's Syrah grapes.
In 1931, Laurent Charles Brotte settled in the prestigious wine region of Châteauneuf-du-Pape in the Rhône region. Here the young Charles threw himself into viticulture and set up a bottling plant in the small town, and thus the seed for Maison Brotte was laid.
Laurent Charles Brotte dedicated his life to providing wine lovers around the world with quality wines that reflect the style and characteristics of the area. In 1952, he got the idea for the brand "La Fiole du Pape", which really cemented Châteauneuf-du-Pape in people's minds. Today "La Fiole du Pape" is exported to 90 countries worldwide.
Maison Brotte is today a dynamic wine company with over 60 ha and 4 properties: Domaine Barville, Château de Bord, Domaine Grosset and Domaine de l'Aube but also its own bottling plant. In 1972, the family also built a museum where visitors can take a closer look at the history of the Rhône valley.
