Rum Matusalem Gran Reserva 15 years Solera delicate and velvety aroma and taste with a fantastic range of aromas with vanilla and caramel

Scent: Delicious scent of vanilla with dark sugar, notes of caramel and plums filled with apricots.
Taste: Velvety soft with a wide range of aromas around a core of vanilla and caramel.

Fill a shaker with ice, 4.5 cl Matusalem Gran Reserva, juice from ½ lime, 4.5 cl Cointreau and 3.5 cl pineapple

Production of Matusalem rum:

Sugar cane juice or molasses is fermented. The fermented juice is then distilled to concentrate the alcohol. The final distillate is aged in oak casks to achieve a softer, more elegant and complex taste as well as a more beautiful and deeper colour.
At Matusalem, the rum is stored according to the Solera method. In Solera, rums of different ages are organized in a system of stacked barrels, with the youngest rum at the top and the oldest at the bottom. When the oldest rum is ready, a bit is removed for bottling. Rum from the second lowest layer of barrels is used to fill up the lower ones again and so on until you reach the top layer which is floated up with new rum.

This method ensures a consistent quality of the rum from one bottling to the next. You also achieve a much more complex, round and sumptuous rum by mixing different rums of different ages.
How many layers there are in a Solera system and how long the rum is stored depends on each Master Blender's recipe and personal style and of course on the kind of rum to be produced.
In general, you can say that the longer the storage/mixing process lasts, the better the rum becomes.

Matusalem Gran Reserva is from a 15-year-old Solera and thus of the highest quality and known as the Cognac of Rums.

Area and manufacturer:

Matusalem was founded in 1872 in Santiago de Cuba by 2 Spanish brothers. They had extensive experience with distilling and blending according to the Solera aging method. The method was originally developed for the production of the famous Spanish sherry. Their goal was to produce one of the world's smoothest rums of the highest quality, a goal the company continues to live up to.
In 1959, Fidel Castro came to power and the family was forced into exile, which is why Matusalem rum is produced today in the Dominican Republic. Sugarcane of the highest quality is grown here thanks to perfect soil and climate conditions.
Matusalem rum is still made to this day according to the family's original and secret recipe. The Master Blenders who make the rum are descendants of the founders and maintain the century-old Solera aging technique.
