Quinta do Vesuvio 1995 Vintage Port – Library Release 2024
Quinta do Vesuvio 1995 Vintage Port – Library Release is a limited release straight from the cellars of the Symington family, with a full 27 years of bottle aging under optimal conditions. This port from the legendary Douro estate offers a complex profile of ripe fruit, silky tannins and a long, persistent aftertaste. Perfect for enjoyment now or further storage.
Scent: Aromas of lavender, garrigue and rosemary with notes of ripe red berries and a touch of resin.
Taste: Full-bodied and velvety with notes of black cherries, prunes and a hint of licorice. Well-structured with refined, polished tannins that round off the taste.
Aftertaste: Long and complex with a persistent fruitiness and silky finish that continues harmoniously.
Quinta do Vesuvio 1995 Vintage Port – Library Release is one of the Symington family's most prized wines. This limited edition has been stored for over 27 years in the family's own cellars, where it has developed extra complexity and balance. The wine originates from the Symington family's seventh harvest at Quinta do Vesuvio, which they took over in 1989.
Head winemaker Peter Symington was particularly proud of the vintage, and in 1995 his son, Charles, also joined the family as future head winemaker. The port exhibits a beautiful finesse, ripe tannins and a full, rich flavor profile with classic notes of ripe berry fruit and an elegant tannin structure. This Library Release is the first of its kind. And includes a carefully designed label that indicates both the years of bottle storage and the release date. The bottle has also been recorked to ensure quality, and its balanced flavor profile makes it ideal for enjoyment now and for further maturation.
Symington Library Release
Symington Family Estates has launched a new concept called "Library Release," which consists of carefully selected Vintage Ports from the family's cellars that have aged in perfect conditions for 20-30 years. This first release includes rare vintages including Dow's, Graham's and Warre's 2003 Vintage Ports as well as Quinta do Vesúvio 1995. The bottles are presented with new, exclusive labels that draw on the port wineries' historic aesthetic and mark their long maturation process. The labels now show both the filling and release date as well as the total aging time in the family's cellars. All the bottles are recorked to maintain quality over many years.
Symington's new Library Release highlights vintages from one of the best port vintages in recent memory, 2003, which was acclaimed for its full body and depth. With nearly 20 years of bottle aging, the wines have developed complex, elegant flavors that can be enjoyed now and still have great aging potential. At the same time, Quinta do Vesúvio 1995 is released, a particularly memorable year in which the family began ownership of the magnificent Douro estate and in which Charles Symington joined his father in the family business.
Symington Family Estates, which has been producing port for five generations, owns large, premium vineyards in the Douro Valley. They are committed to sustainability and in 2019 became the first certified B Corporation winery in Portugal. The family continues its dedication to environmentally friendly initiatives through its ambitious Mission 2025 program.
About Portvinshuset:
The Symington family has been involved in port wine production for five generations since 1882, when Andrew James Symington moved from Scotland to Portugal to work for Graham's.
In 1989, the family bought Quinta do Vesuvio with the ambition to create exceptional vintage wines. Originally the focus was only on Vintage Port, but since then both Douro DOC Port and Douro DOC wines have become part of the production. The wines are made in the traditional way by stomping the grapes, and the must is fermented in stainless steel tanks. The wine is then aged for two years in oak casks before it is bottled and released.
Of the property's 325 hectares, 141 are planted with vines ranging in age from 3 to 40 years. All vineyards have achieved the prestigious A classification, which ensures quality and depth of flavor in the wines.
