This Grande Reserva Douro DOP 2011 from the winery Quinta do Pego, represents a carefully selected blend of grapes from the 2011 harvest. This enchanting red wine creation is mastered by the experienced winemaker Wouter Pienaar. The magnificent grapes, sourced from the Quinta do Pégo estate, located on the left bank of the Douro River in Portugal's Douro Valley, are grown on quality class A soil. Yields are kept low and only the most excellent grapes have found their way into this wine. The harvest was carried out at optimal maturity and only carefully selected red yeast was used in the fermentation.

Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca, Sousão and Tinto Cão grapes, carefully stomped in traditional granite lagars, make up this elegant wine. After this process, the wine was matured for around 12 months in French oak barrels, followed by further aging in bottle before release.

The result is a characterful wine with an intense deep red color and a beautiful purple tinge. It offers a fresh and intense aroma and a rich fruity taste, accompanied by notes of oak that add complexity. The powerful, but at the same time soft tannins and the long, pleasant aftertaste ensure the wine an impressive potential for further aging.

The unique and well-structured wine perfectly complements dishes such as red meat, game and various cheeses. This is an extraordinary red wine that will develop even more with time. Due to the light filtration, depôt may naturally occur over time, which makes decanting advisable.

Quinta do Pego:

Danish-owned vineyard located on the road from Régua to Pinhão – approx. 3 km before Pinhão on the right – in the Douro Valley in Portugal. The vineyard is located 138 meters above the water level of the Douro River, with the vineyards located up to 350 meters above the water level of the Douro River. It is undoubtedly one of the most beautifully situated Quintas in the Douro Valley.

Since January 2000, 50% of Quinta do Pégo has been owned by AMKA. September 2003 Quinta do Pégo has been 100% owned by AMKA. The farm has 33 hectares of land, of which 30 hectares are planted. The soil is classified in group A, which is the absolute best group.

The Quinta do Pégo project involves – in addition to the production of some of the finest and best port wines – a total renovation of the old buildings as well as the construction of a number of guest houses on the farm. After this total renovation, the winery Quinta do Pégo opened in the spring of 2009 in a completely new form with a hotel. Quinta do Pégo is one of the most beautiful quintas in the Douro Valley – and Hotel Rural Quinta do Pégo is definitely worth a visit.
