National hero:

José Julián Martí Pérez (born January 28, 1853 – died May 19, 1895) was and remains a Cuban national hero and an important figure in Latin American literature. In his short life he managed to wear many 'hats'. He was, among other things, a poet, essayist, journalist, revolutionary philosopher, translator, professor, publisher and political theorist. He was also part of the Cuban Freemasons.
Through his literature and political activity, he became a symbol of Cuba's struggle for independence against Spain in the 19th century. After his death, he was referred to as the "Apostle of the Cuban War of Independence". He dedicated his life to promoting freedom and political independence for Cuba. He was killed by Spanish soldiers during "The Battle of Dos Ríos", and his death was the start of the fight for an independent Cube. Not only for the Cuban revolutionaries, but also for those Cubans who had previously been reluctant to fight for a free Cuba.
'Presidente' is a supreme rum, of the highest quality, created by Cuban rum maestros in Santo Domingo in 1995, to honor the memory of José Martí and the 100th anniversary of his death.
