PlumpJack Cabernet Sauvignon 2021 is a sublime representation of Californian wine production, where the extreme conditions of nature are combined with skilled craftsmanship. 2021 was characterized by unusual drought, which stressed the vines and resulted in small but highly concentrated grapes.

This wine presents a rich, dark color and a complex aroma, where notes of black cherry, boysenberry and blackberry jam dominate. The fruity notes are beautifully balanced with fresh herbs such as mint and sage as well as a mineral note from iron.

The wine undergoes careful fermentation at 94°F and is aged for 20 months in 100% French oak barrels. Of which 78% are new, providing extra dimensions of spice, vanilla and cocoa. This sophisticated wine offers a velvety mouthfeel, robust tannins and a long, persistent aftertaste with notes of espresso and dark chocolate.

PlumpJack Estate Winery: From Humble Wine Shop to Napa Valley Icon

PlumpJack Estate Winery is one of Napa Valley's most recognized wineries, but its roots go back to a modest wine shop that opened in 1992 in the Fillmore neighborhood of San Francisco. This wine shop, known as PlumpJack Wines, was founded by Gavin Newsom and Gordon Getty. They had a vision to create a welcoming environment where people could learn about and buy wine in a relaxed atmosphere.

Five years later, in 1997, the PlumpJack Group took the next step by acquiring a historic 21-acre winery located on Oakville Cross Road in Napa Valley. This marked the birth of PlumpJack Estate Winery. The winery, which is over a hundred years old, has since developed into a pioneer in the Napa Valley wine industry.

One of the most notable accomplishments of PlumpJack Estate Winery is their pioneering decision to introduce screw caps as a closure method for fine wines. This move broke with the tradition of cork stoppers and signaled the winery's innovative spirit and willingness to challenge the status quo.

PlumpJack Estate Winery is part of the PlumpJack Group, which is run by partners Gavin Newsom, Gordon Getty and John Conover. The name "PlumpJack" is inspired by Shakespeare's character Sir John Falstaff from the play Henry IV, a character who was referred to as "Plump Jack" by Queen Elizabeth. This name reflects the spirit of the vineyard. A balance between tradition and innovation, where winemaking is an art form that both pays tribute to the past and embraces the future.
