This 29 year old Pittyvaich from Special Release 2019 is a whiskey with a unique expression with real depth of flavor and character of a 'ghost' malt from a closed distillery. This is the only double aged Pittyvaich ever released and the only one to be finished in Pedro Ximenez / Oloroso mixed spice casks.
Pittyvaich is often described as rare – it was only open for 19 years and closed back in 1993. This is the third special release from the distillery since 2015, double matured in Oloroso and Pedro-Ximénez casks. A complex and deep whiskey with citrus, malt, caramel, orange.
Scent: A soft fragrance, with very light tingle with light nose drying with first faint and delicate impressions of fruitiness and dried flowers, under which there is a note of buttery mushrooms. A drop of water opens up the dried flowers, creating sweetness and adding spicy touches of sweet ginger and hard wood shavings.
Taste: At natural strength, the fullness of a whiskey with an ultra-smooth structure is felt in the mouth. The taste is immediately rich and very sweet with slightly dried fruits and golden sugar in a light spirit. It quickly becomes spicy with tanned gunpowder in the mid-palate and generally dry. However, softer with a little water, so sweet toffee can be found.
Aftertaste: Long, smooth and spicy, finishing with a hint of powdered ginger and a lingering embracing warmth. Gets smoother with a little water.
