Pittyvaich 28 years Cask Strength – Special Release 2022 52.1%

Pittyvaich 28 Year Old is a Single Malt Cask Strength from 1989 distilled in Speyside by the Pittivaich Distillery, which remained open from 1975 to 1993. This limited edition is released for Diageo's 2018 Special Release with a production run of just 4,680 bottles. Originally born as a blending whisky, it is now one of the rarest Single Malt Scotch Whiskies.

Scent: Dense and soft with a short, light tingle. Convincing in its simplicity. Waxy, then slow notes of sweet, ginger cake rise above traces of lemon zest, honey and fresh mint on ripe red apple skins.
Taste: Immediate and direct. Smooth coating structure and a sweet flavor with a warming, peppery sharpness. Dark toffee and spice; surprising notes of salt and fluff. Increasingly toasty, with charred, raisin-rich apple strudel and toasted coconut; then marzipan, bitter chocolate, heather and menthol.
Aftertaste: Gentle and warming, with a little white pepper. Bold, with a penetrating sharpness. Sweet mint-cool with burnt croissant, cedar and hints of smoke. Slow drying and very, very long.

About the Distillery:

Built in 1974 originally to become part of the ever popular Bells blended whisky. It was located in the town that some see as the heart of Speyside, Dufftown. It was the last malt distillery to be built in the famous city.

It was finally closed in 1993 and sadly demolished in 2002.

Bottles from Pittyvaich have recently been seen as part of Diageo's annual Special Releases and bottles have also been released as part of the fantastic Flora and Fauna range. It will only be a matter of time before they are good for good.
