Niepoort Colheita 2012 is a must taste, incredibly delicate and at the same time complex with a long persistent aftertaste.

Scent: The delicious brick red color with an orange rim sends delicious notes up the glass, with hazelnuts and spices with a hint of tobacco from the very old wine barrels, complementing well with notes of figs and candied cherries and dried apricots.
Taste: Delicate and structured with a complex persistent aftertaste.
Server for: Dried fruit, desserts with eggs, coffee, almond tart and aperitif, preferably served chilled.

Colheita:

Colheita is a one-year Tawny port, aged in casks for a minimum of seven years before bottling. Both the harvest year and the bottle year are on the bottle.

The making of 2012 Colheita:

In 2012, the entire Douro region lacked water, which meant that the cycle of the vine became approx. 15 days late compared to previous years. Winter came with low temperatures which resulted in homogeneous vegetative growth. The temperatures during the ripening period were also as warm as normal. However, it created a good balance in the total acidity of the must.
The grapes were harvested in September and after thorough sorting, the grapes and stems went directly into granite presses. Here they were trampled under foot.

Grape varieties used for 2012:    

Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca, Tinto Cao, Tinta Francisca, Tinta Amarela, Sousao, Tinta Roriz and other grapes.

6000 bottles of Colheita 2012 have been produced.
