A heavily sherried Mortlach 26 years Special Release 2019 single malt, distilled in 1992 and matured in first fill oloroso and Pedro Ximenez sherry casks for 26 years before being bottled as part of Diageo's special releases in 2019.

Scent: An overall soft scent with a very light tingle. The aroma is deep and complex very rich with dark fruits in spirit and prune juice and Oloroso sherry, sloe in gin, prunes in syrup. There is old oak and soft leather to begin with, developing into hard toffee and chocolate covered coffee beans. A rich Christmas pudding with all the classic sherry cask notes. Later tasty meaty tones as the beast from Dufftown is roused from its slumber. A drop of water suppresses much of this.
Taste: At natural strength, smooth and viscous in texture with mouth drying and tannic acid. The wonderfully rich fruity taste is immediately sweet with damson fruit, slightly savory with a trace of licorice and dried spices, with a fragrant hint of cloves. Generally dry with rich tannins. Sweeter and less tanned, with more sweet spicy fruit when a little water is added. Magnificent.
Aftertaste: Seemingly endless and deeply impressive, with fruit and spice in perfect harmony and a warming glow that spreads across the palate. Leaves the palate dry, yet wreathed in a gloriously rich aftertaste.
