Montegradella Valpolicella Classico Superiore Santa Sofia

Montegradella Valpolicella Classico Superiore is delightfully powerful with both acid and sweet fruits and well-balanced tannins with a long finish

Scent: Very bold with refined alluring notes of prunes and raisins with cherries and mixed spices with vanilla.
Taste: The structure is firm with soft tannins where the freshness goes well with the alcohol. Long and lovely aftertaste with a hint of bitterness.
Sever to: Italian cuisine, spaghetti bolognese and pasta dishes, stewed meat, roast beef and poached fillet.

Montegradella:

From vines growing in the Valpolicella classico region, where the soil is rich in clay on marl hills. Made from 3 grape varieties Corvina, Corvinone and Rondinella. Although it is from Valpolicella, it is not a classic Ripasso. Maceration took place for 10 days in stainless steel tanks. Aged 18 months in cask and 6 months in bottle before release.

Santa Sofia:

All the way back to the 14th century, the story of Santa Sofia began, where San Bernadino monks built cellars for the church that lay on top. The church was dedicated to the saint Santa Sofia. Around the 18th century, the new cellar was built, the steel tanks used in Santa Sofia's fresher wines still stand here. The old cellar is used for storing their Amarone and strong wines. The third cellar, which was built in the 16th century, is located under the villa and is used for storing wine in French casks.
Today, the villa is closed to public visits and is on the UNESCO World Heritage List. The villa which is next to the winery was made by the architect Andrea Palladio in the 16th century. In 1967, Giancarlo Begnoni bought Santa Sofia from the Rizzardi family. Giancarlo still owns and runs the winery together with his son Luciano.
