Longrow 21 Year Single Malt Whiskey (Release 2023) 46%

This 2023 edition of Longrow 21 years, is a heavy peated Single Malt Whisky. Smoky and sweet whiskey that slowly unfolds with warm spices, maritime notes, smoke and havana tobacco.. This is the 2023 bottling aged in 65% sherry casks and 35% bourbon casks. As usual, it is bottled at the very well-chosen 46% alcohol, without dye or chill filtration.

Scent: Beach bonfire, roasted hazelnuts, dark berries and cedar.
Taste: Sweet, complex and almost elegant dram that unfolds slowly with warm spices, maritime notes, smoke and havana tobacco.

Longrow uses a 48 hour kiln drying process for their peat. As well as a double distillation process, which gives the range an oily, strongly peaty character.

Longrow Peated Campbeltown (November 2021) 46%

This November 2021 edition of Longrow Peated from Campbeltown, is matured in Bourbon and Sherry casks. A heavily peated whisky, with a smoky flavor that travels through the senses like smoke billowing from an oven. Another good whiskey from the Springbank distillery.

Scent: Very creamy, vanilla custard. The smoke develops gradually rather than overpowering the other aromas present. Roasted marshmallows, herbs and rich fruits emerge over time.
Taste: Palate Incredibly well balanced; rich and creamy with a light medicinal touch. The smoke is always present, washing over the palate in waves, like the soft waves of smoke from the oven.
Aftertaste: The gentle smoke lingers and leaves you longing for more.

About the Distillery:

At Springbank, 3 distinct types of whiskey are produced, which differ on a number of parameters.

The classic one Spring bank has a light dry smoke. The smoke level is indicated (somewhat imprecisely) with a measurement of phenol in the finished malted barley and is approximately 10-15 "parts per million" (the malt is dried for 6 hours with peat smoke and 30 hours with hot air). Springbank is also distilled 2.5 times.

"Longrow” – a strongly smoked variant was first made in 1973. Here the smoke is up to 50-55 ppm, the malt is dried for 48 hours with peat smoke, and it is distilled twice.

The latest variant, Hazelburn, saw the light of day in 1997 when, for the first time, they tried completely unsmoked and triple-distilled whiskey.

Of the approximately 175,000 liters the small Campbeltown distillery produces per year, 80% is Springbank, approximately 10% Longrow and 10% Hazelburn.

Regardless of which variant you're after, Springbank is worth getting to know. It is the favorite distillery of many whiskey geeks and for good reason! As the only distillery in Scotland, they malt all the barley they need themselves. It is added never dye, and the whiskey cooling is not filtered.
