Lochlea Sowing Edition – First Crop 48%

This 3 year old Lochlea Sowing Edition single malt was laid down at the Lochlea distillery in 2018 and bottled as the first release in an annual series of limited seasonal bottlings in 2022.

Sowing Edition represents spring, and you really feel it when you get out into the field, where it starts to sprout and spring is in the air. One provides a nice warmth on a cool but sunny spring day. A lovely dram, where the taste of malt emerges in an incredibly pleasant way.

Tasting notes from Sprit & Co.'s whiskey ambassador, Tommy Oddmar Seilen:
Scent: Green apples, citrus, vanilla and heather honey.
Taste: White pepper, pickled pears, vanilla, rounded flavors of wood and finally hints of thyme
Aftertaste: Lightly spicy, fruit, notes of Bourbon cask rounded off with English licorice and mocha.

This First Crop release was matured in the 100% First Fill Bourbon Fade and is one of 7,000 bottles with an alcohol percentage of 48%.

About the Distillery:

At Lochlea, their independent distillery has been quietly producing, casks and maturing their spirits over the past few years. Patiently waiting to share the fruits of their wonderful labor with the rest of the world.

Originally led by the experience and expertise of Head Distillery Malcolm Rennie, and now under the management of former Laphroaig Distillery Manager John Campbell. Having built one of the top ten Scotch brands in the world over the past 27 years, John brings a wealth of knowledge and a burning ambition to help Lochlea fulfill its potential.

And the result? A whiskey to drink. A whiskey that is not just a bottle to be admired, collected or saved. It is a whiskey that should find its home in cocktail cabinets, but also around the campfire. Love, care and attention from field to cask have been paramount in creating this whisky.

The family-run farm grows and harvests their own barley with drafts used to feed local cattle. The water is raised from the aquifers in the limestone deep below the farm. Rooted in Scottish history, we are very proud that Robert Burns called Lochlea home throughout his formative years, from 1777 until his father's death in 1784.
