Lindores Cask Strength Chapter 1 Single malt Friar John Cor

Lindore's Cask Strength Chapter 1 is the first release in The Cask Strength Congregation Batch series from their distillery. Whiskey aged in a mixture of ex-casks from Bourbon, red wine, Monbazillac wine and sherry.

Scent: Very vinous and fruity notes come out of the glass with ripe banana, beeswax, apricots, fresh baked goods, red apples and peaches.
Taste: Silky smooth and feels very well balanced but at the same time complex with saddles and figs where apricots with cinnamon mix with blood oranges, almonds and vanilla.
Aftertaste: Medium length with the sweetness of honey and soft spices with nuts.

The special beautiful black bottle design is inspired by the decoration on the bricks found during the excavation of the old Lindores Monastery.

First publication in The Cask Strength Congregation Batch series from Lindores Abbey Distillery. Aged in a mixture of casks that previously contained Monbazillac wine, bourbon, red wine and sherry.

Chapter 1:

Friar John Cor Cask is the first release in extremely limited release, which is bottled at cask strength. Is a combination of whiskey that has aged in casks that previously contained bourbon, monbazillac wine, red wine (STR) and sherry respectively. Is released non-chill filtered, without added color.

Lindores has one of the world's longest whiskey fermentation periods, a whopping 117 hours. This is combined with an unusual distillation process. which results in a single malt that, despite its young age, still has a thoroughly remarkable character.
Lindores uses a specialized distillation system. After the whiskey is first distilled in a massive wash still called "Dodo", it is transferred to two sister stills, named after the owners' daughters Puppy and Gee. The fact that the whiskey is distilled in the second round in two smaller kettles, rather than one large one, means that there is twice as much contact with the copper inside of the kettle. This enhances and refines the wonderful nuances of flavor that develop during the extraordinarily long fermentation period.

Lindores Distillery:

In the Scottish financial archive from June 1494, you find the earliest known reference to what is today called Scotch Whisky. The piece of text is about a shipment of malted barley to a monk from Lindore Monastery in Scotland.

"To Brother John Cor, 8 sacks of barley malt, with which to make Aqua Vitae for King James IV"

This quote cements Lindore's monasteries as the spiritual home of Scotch Whisky. It's a legacy that Lindore's Abbey Distillery still carries to this day, more than 500 years later.
Although Lindores may be rich in tradition, the distillery is quite young. The methods are state-of-the-art and innovative, as well as experimenting with new fermentation times, specially designed boiler systems and blending across cask types.
Lindores uses selected bourbon, sherry and wine casks to mature their whisky. Lindore's Lowland Single Malt Scotch Whiskey is their standard release, which contains a blend of the three cask types. Each year there are also limited editions of the casks individually.
