From a Secret (Unknown) distillery on Islay comes this Laggan Mill bottling from Cooper's Choice.
We do not know for sure where this whiskey comes from, it is unaged and is finished in a Port wine cask, the Distillery has traditionally used a mixture of Sherry and Bourbon casks in their own bottlings. It is very unusual for this distillery, with a port finish. It is a lovely dram, with both wine and iodine and iron in the aroma and taste. Good with peat in both aroma and taste. Super exciting and delicious whiskey at a really good price.
Scent: Here, delicious fruit smoke and cured meat come out of the glass.
Taste: Sweet peat notes with red fruits along with oily smoke and pepper.
Aftertaste: Here is a nice balance between fruit and smoke.
A funny detail to the pun on this dram is that Laggan Mill and Lagavulin mean the Mill in the valley of, respectively. English and Gaelic. So can you guess the distillery now?
