Lagavulin 16 years is a roaring fire from the coast of Islay.

Lagavulin is exposed to 20 times as much peat smoke as a typical single malt from Speyside. Lagavulin 16 years is aged for at least 16 years in oak casks, which gives the whiskey the sought-after massive peat smoke typical of this area along with dryness.

Lagavulin is located in the small bay on the south coast of Islay and is the largest distillery in the islands around Scotland. Lagavulin means "the valley where the mill lies", which comes from the Gaelic "Lag A'Mhouillin". The distillery was founded in 1816 by the Gaelic John Johntson. The area is rich in peat, which is the prerequisite for all good malt whiskies. The kilometer-long stretches of peat bogs on the west side of the island ensure the characteristic smoky taste in the malt whisky. Islay is Scotland's smallest region with 3000 inhabitants and seven distilleries. Here you will find peaty, intense and powerful whiskies, which also all have a characteristic smoky character.
