Bowmore 30 years – The Kinship Edition No. 2 56.1%
This second edition of the 2017 series The Kinship Edition and is a well aged 30 year Bowmore. It was sherry cask matured and is one of 507 bottles. A second Kinship series was released in 2018 to celebrate the completion of the Ardnahoe project.
Scent: Slightly hazy smoke from the start along with some fruits and lavender before sweetness and citrus come.
Taste: The smoke mixes with lavender. After 30 years in cask, it may well seem stuffy, it needs to wake up possibly. with a few drops of water, all the notes come out with smoke, tobacco and vanilla, everything you expect.
Aftertaste: Delicate and balanced.
To celebrate the start of construction of the Ardnahoe distillery on Islay in 2017, Hunter Laing released a selection of 6 bottles called the Kinship collection. Each celebrates a different Islay distillery and will be available exclusively on Feis Ile in 2017.
Feis Ile, also known as the Islay Festival of Music and Malt, had humble beginnings. It traces its origins back to 1985 and the creation of The Islay Festival Association after it was realized that an event celebrating Gaelic, music and culture would drive tourism to the island. The inaugural event was two weeks of music, drama and workshops with ceilidhs, concerts and dancing in the evenings. The first whiskey tasting took place as a festival event in 1990, and ten years later the island's distilleries began to become directly involved; and organized their annual open days to coincide with it. Today it is one of the biggest events on the whiskey calendar, drawing hundreds of revelers annually and showcasing an increasingly sought-after group of limited edition whiskeys like this one.
About the Distillery:
Islay's oldest working distillery, Bowmore, was established in 1779 and is now regarded as one of the most popular malts not only on Islay but in all of Scotland. The distillery was acquired by Stanley P. Morrison in 1963, ushering in an era of iconic single malts. Including the legendary Black Bowmore, which is credited by many as the origin of whiskey collection, bottled in 1993. The distillery was bought under the control of Suntory the following year (they had been stakeholders since 1989). And it remains one of the most collectable brands in Scotch whiskey today.
Bowmore is one of the few remaining Scottish distilleries to use its own floor stills, giving them 40 % of their needs. The unique microclimate of their iconic No. 1 vaults shares very little with the Angels, meaning casks are readily available to independent brands like this,
