Gold of Mauritius 5 is full and intense but at the same time soft and pleasant. It is a rum with a fine balance and a long and persistent aftertaste.

Scent:  Lovely composition of roasted nuts, chocolate and vanilla
Taste: Very intense and juicy body with sweetness that reveals fine oak and malt notes
Aftertaste: The finish is rich, making every sip a festive experience

Lovely rum from the beautiful island of Mauritius. The taste is sweet and creamy with lots of dark aromas. Truly a luxury rum that deserves a good cup of coffee as a companion.

The room is stocked:
1 year in ex Bourbon casks from the USA.
3 years in brand new American oak barrels (virgin oak).
1 year in used port barrels from Portugal.

Mauritius:
Mauritius is an island state located in the middle of the Indian Ocean, about 900 km east of Madagascar. Large parts of the island are covered with green sugarcane plantations in ocher red soil. And there is a long tradition of producing both sugar and rum.
Gold of Mauritius 5 solera is produced at the Stanford Cove distillery, where the rum is also aged.

The island has been known to the Arabs since the 9th century, but it was the Portuguese who came as the first Europeans to the island in 1505. The Dutch colonized the island in 1638, and they named the island after Prince Morits of Nassau. The Dutch left the island a few decades later. In the 18th century, the island was under French control. The French introduced the first black slaves to produce sugar from sugar cane. In 1810 Great Britain occupied the island in connection with the Napoleonic Wars. The island became British and the British retained control until independence in 1968.

There are several rum distilleries in Mauritius. Some produce the rum from the fresh sugarcane juice, also called Rhum Agricole (from the French era), and others use the waste product from cane sugar, which is called molasses-based rum.
