Glenfarclas 17 Year Single Malt 43%

In this 17 year Single Malt from the Glenfarclas distillery, you will find a bold and full-bodied with sweet notes from the sherry cask with a long delicious aftertaste with delicious spices

Scent: You experience a full-bodied whiskey with notes of caramel with sweet fruit and sherry.
Taste: Nicely balanced with fatness and fullness from the sweetness from the sherry cask together with tones from the malt.
Aftertaste: Long and delicious with soft with a touch of spices together with the last impressions from the sherry.

Direct fire:

Glenfarclas make use of direct fire on their stills. Not to please tourists or other whiskey nuts, but because of the quality of the finished whisky. Steam was tried back in 1981, but the conclusion was that too much of the strength went out of the whiskey, so they went back to direct fire. Fullness and strength are needed to cope with the tannin structure and full impression of fruit in the old sherry casks.
Today, all the wood comes from Jerez and cooper Miguel Martin. A mixture of butts and hogsheads are used, all of which are old Olorose barrels, made from European oak.
Glenfarclas' core range is aged in a mix of first-fill and re-fill casks. In 2007 the Scots released 'The Family Cask' - vintage releases from every year between 1952 and 1998.

Glenfarclas also claims to have pioneered the bottling of Cask Strength Whiskey when it launched its 105˚ in 1968. However, it was certainly one of the first distilleries to open its doors to visitors in 1973.

Glenfarclas means "The Valley of the Green Grass" in Gaelic. They get the water used in the distillation from a small spring that springs from the beautiful and dramatic Ben Rinnes. The distillery is located at the foot of the heather-covered mountain, where the water springs up from the underlying granite when the winter snow melts. The combination of the very clean, soft water and the completely unique shape of the potstills Glenfarclas uses makes their whiskey unique Highlands single malt.

About the Distillery:

Glenfarclas is a family-owned Scotch whiskey distillery with a rich heritage and tradition. The name Glenfarclas means "Valley of the Green Grass" in Gaelic and reflects the distillery's idyllic location in the heart of the Scottish Highlands.

At Glenfarclas, the skilled Scots get the water for the distillation from a spring that springs from the dramatic and majestic Ben Rinnes mountain. This spring flowing with crystal clear water; is the epitome of purity and is an important ingredient in the creation of Glenfarclas' unique whiskies.

The distillery has been in the possession of the Grant family since 1865 and is proud of its tradition of family ownership. Six generations of Grants have dedicated themselves to passing on the craft and expertise of the distillery, making Glenfarclas one of the world's most recognized and respected whiskey brands.

Glenfarclas has been able to preserve older production methods thanks to its stable family ownership. The distillery has stuck to using former sherry casks to mature their whiskies. Which adds a depth of flavor and a seductive sweetness to every drop. With more than 80,000 casks for aging, Glenfarclas has an impressive amount of whiskeys in development that mature and develop their character over time.

Glenfarclas is also known for its resilience in a changing whiskey industry. Even during periods of economic downturn, the distillery has performed well without having to resort to external financing. This independence and autonomy gives the distillery the freedom to create whiskey at their own pace and style. Which has contributed to their continued success and authentic expression.

As a testament to their quality and values, Glenfarclas has maintained a strong identity and has chosen to avoid being associated with independent bottlers. This helps to maintain the distillery's credibility and ensures that Glenfarclas' whiskeys are a true reflection of the distillery's own standards and expertise.
