Glenburgie 25 years is one of many rare whiskeys from Wilson & Morgan
Since 1992, Wilson & Morgan has offered a fine selection of rare independent bottlings of Scotch malt whisky.
Wilson & Morgan only selects malts with an aging time of 10 to 30 years. The barrels are stored in countries all over the world. And in many cases they are further matured in port, rum or marsala casks in Italy.
Everything is personally selected by Fabio Rossi, who follows a simple rule for his choices: "Trust your palate and your instinct." And it is probably because of this rule that his whiskeys are particularly attractive on the market today.
The story of Wilson and Morgan is inextricably linked to the story of the Venetian family of the Rossis. As Venice experienced the last afterglow of its former trading empire in the 1920s, wine and oil merchant Giuseppe Rossi, grandfather of today's chairman of Wilson & Morgan, Fabio Rossi, moved from Venice to the mainland and settled in Treviso, a picturesque and thriving town , half an hour from 'Laguna Venetia' and since ancient times favored as a summer holiday by the Venetian nobility.
After the Second World War, Giuseppe's son, Mario Rossi, took over the company and expanded it during the difficult post-war years. In the 1960s the company was thriving like never before and Mario Rossi decided it was time to take a decisive step forward by starting to import whiskey from his country of origin – Scotland. Because of the tastes of the time, the first whiskeys were imported blended varieties, and it took – even in Italy, where palates are most refined – almost ten years before the taste buds of Mario Rossi's customers demanded a more prominent taste. Thus, in 1970, Mario Rossi began to buy premium blended whiskeys directly from the Scottish distilleries.
"I can still remember the strong smell of peat in our house when I was a child," says Fabio Rossi, founder and chairman of Wilson & Morgan and one of Mario Rossi's two sons, who taught his boys the secrets of the trade early on. In the 1980s, Mario Rossi and his sons Fabio and Walter began to see which way the wind was blowing, introducing the "King of Whiskeys" to their clients - single malt, independently bottled.
Being indeed Scotland's finest, the single malts were bought by the Rossis from the Scottish distilleries selected personally by Fabio Rossi. The oenologist, who studied and mastered the art of making wine in Conegliano, Italy, has a golden rule for making his choice: “Trust your palate and your instinct.” And it is not least because of this rule that today Wilson & Morgan whiskey is such a particularly excellent choice of fine and rare single malts.
