Glen Scotia 15 years Single Malt
Glen Scotia 15 years is a single malt whiskey from the Cambpeltown region in western Scotland. It is aged in American oak barrels for a minimum of 15 years before bottling at 46% alcohol. The popular snob and whiskey reviewer, Ralfy, has awarded this Glen Scotia 92 points – and that's a remarkably high score from Ralfy!
Scent: The dark golden color sends delicious aromas of apricot and ginger up from the glass.
Taste: Salted caramel mixed with red apples in delicious harmony with vanilla and ginger.
The style of Glen Scotia is medium-bodied and salty, sometimes with small fleeting puffs of smoke. Glen Scotia makes both unsmoked and medium-smoked whisky, though with a deliberate focus on the former.
About the distillery
Glen Scotia is located in Campbeltown in south-west Scotland. The area was once known as the whiskey capital of the world, but today there are only 3 active distilleries: Springbank, Glengyle (Kilkerran) and Glen Scotia. The small distillery has been making whiskey here since 1832, albeit with many interruptions along the way.
Today it is owned by the Loch Lomond Group and the distillery has been producing continuously since 1999, but not at full capacity. As recently as 2011, when the whiskey boom was already well under way, Glen Scotia was making just 130,000 litres, although the capacity is around 800,000.
