Finlaggan Old Reserve Islay single malt is aged in ex-bourbon casks. Bottled at a strength of 40%

Scent: Earthy smoke and salt from the sea spray.
Taste: Sharp peat smoke, delicious sweet malt, pepper, tar and a hint of iodine.
Aftertaste: Long and has a warming effect with smoky ash.

Distillery:

On the island of Islay lies Loch Finlaggan, a place of great importance in Scottish history. In the Loch there are three islands, two of which are Eilean Mor (Big Island) and Eileen na Comhairle (Council Island) where the installation of the Isles Macdonald Lords took place. The chiefs of Clan Donald chose Finlaggan as their home and the center of their dominion. That is why Islay is often referred to as the cradle of Clan Donald. The Lords of the Pea ruled the Isles and part of the west coast of Scotland in the 13th to 15th centuries. It was almost independent of royal control until 1493. Then the dominion of the Isles fell to James IV of Scotland. The heir to a strong Gaelic and Norse tradition, Isles 'Righ Innse Gall' was one of the most powerful figures in the country with the small islands of Loch Finlaggan a center of symbolism and history.

Finlaggan the name:

You get the impression that Finlaggan is the name of the distillery where the whiskey comes from. However, that is not true. There is no distillery named Finlaggan on the island of Islay or elsewhere. Where the whiskey comes from is unknown. For contractual reasons, it remains anonymous. All bottles in the series are single malt. When it is Single malt, the content must only come from a distillery. Whether all releases come from the same distillery, we do not know.
The mysterious origin and the fact that the series rarely comes with age restrictions.
It has given whiskey connoisseurs many headaches with where, age etc. Regardless, it is good and smoky as a true Islay should be.
