Fettercairn 12 year Single Malt
Fettercairn 12 year old is like every release of Fettercairn single malt whiskey on a maturation journey that enhances the tropical distillery character derived from their unique copper chill distillation process.
Scent: The beautiful amber color sends vanilla and pear up from the glass with notes of soft spices.
Taste: Refreshing nectarine and tropical fruits with roasted coffee with notes of cloves and ginger.
Aftertaste: the spices end together with black toffee.
Fettercairn 12 years is aged 12 years in American white oak ex-Bourbon casks.
Located at the foot of Scotland's Cairngorms, we not only use crystal clear mountain water as an ingredient in the making of our whisky, it also cools the copper in our stills. It pours down the outside of the stills from our unique cooling ring, creating more condensation inside, ensuring that only the finest vapors can rise to the top for collection.
History:
Founder Sir Alexander Ramsay, was one of the Scottish landowners who campaigned to license Scotch Whiskey distillation. In 1824 he was one of the first to apply for a license and the Fettercairn Distillery was opened.
But despite Ramsay's campaign for regulation, he was a shrewd businessman and he recruited illegal whiskey producers to be his first silent men. He only recognized that they had the knowledge and skills he needed. So right from our beginnings we've been doing things a little differently in the pursuit of great whisky.
The introduction of the cooling ring:
In the mid-1950s, the whiskey makers of Fettercairn experimented and sought ways to create a purer expression of their spirit. They found that pouring water down and still cooled the copper, increasing the condensation inside so that only the lightest vapors could rise for collection. They made a copper tube around the top of the still to constantly douse it with water. An ingenious and practical solution that remains unique in Scotch whiskey making to this day.
