About the distillery

Ardmore Distillery is a single malt Scotch whiskey distillery. The distillery is owned and operated by Beam Suntory, an American subsidiary of Suntory Holdings of Osaka, Japan. The distillery was built in 1898 by William Teacher's son, Adam, to provide fill for their blend, Teacher's Highland Cream (of which it remains the main component).

Situated deep in the farmland of “the Garioch”, near the River Bogie and the village of Kennethmont, Huntly, Aberdeenshire. Two stills were added in 1955, and four more in 1974, for a total of eight. The distillery had its own malthouses until the mid-1970s and its own cooperage until the late 1980s. Until early 2001, it used coal to fire stills.

About the Bottler

The Deerstalker Whiskey brand is old: so old, in fact, that it probably is one of the oldest whiskey brands in the world. Wine merchant JG Thomson registered the trademark Deerstalker Whiskey in 1880 – just five years after The Trade Marks Registration Act introduced trademarks into British law.

In 1994 the brand was acquired by Paul Aston – the export director of Tennent Caledonian, one of Scotland's largest breweries. Aston still owns Deerstalker to this day, which he runs in close collaboration with Master Distiller and Blender John McDougall. The whiskey is bought from various distilleries around Scotland. Bottling, blending and finishing in sherry casks is carried out at Deerstalker's own warehouse in Glasgow.

The principle behind Deerstalker has – ever since Aston bought it – been to offer whiskey that is easy to access, relatively cheap and that comes from distilleries that are not necessarily well known.

In addition to their standard Blended Malt and Highland Single Malt ranges, Deerstalker also periodically releases Limited Releases as well as The Wild Scotland Collection. The Wild Scotland Collection consists of a number of limited releases from various Highland distilleries. All the releases are single cask bottlings, and bottled at cask strength, in addition each release is named after a Scottish animal.
