Dalmore 18 year old Highland single malt
Scent: From the glass comes vanilla with dark chocolate mixed with orange and cinnamon
The taste: The dark chocolate from the scent is now with candied citrus fruits, with notes of coffee, nutmeg and soft licorice.
Aftertaste: Citrus fruits with fullness.
The Dalmore Distillery is said to have been founded in 1839. It has been owned for almost a hundred years by the noble, local family – the Clan Mackenzies – their castle is located by the distillery near the town of Strarhpeffer.
Dalmore 18 years and all their whiskeys bear the family coat of arms, which Dalmore has been given its 'royal' antler.
The progenitor of the Mackenzie clan saved King Alexander III from being gored by a wild deer, the grateful king therefore allowed him to use the title and estate and carry this noble symbol in his shield.
The newest slogan for 'The Dalmore' is also taken from the Mackenzies' coat of arms 'Luceo non
uro' that says 'Shine not Burn'.
It was originally another Alexander – namely Alex Matheson – who founded the distillery. He lived in the northern highlands and found that the rich peat, the incredibly clear water, and the fat barley from
the area, formed an extremely good basis for malt whiskey production.
It was not until 1867 that the Mackenzie family took over the distillery, and it was in 1960 that ownership passed to Whyte & Mackay, who are still the owners today.
