Clynelish 12 years The Wildcats Golden Gaze Special Release 2022 of a whopping 58.5 % that is double matured in PX Oloroso Sherry casks with a large bouquet in the scent and taste notes.
Scent: Creamy top notes give way to light but complex fruit and herbal aromas. In the base there is fruity minced meat, tinned pears, even heather honey. The spicy aromas of oak show a sky-high intensity on the palate.
A drop of water enhances the herbal note while introducing a familiar waxy hint.
Taste: Smooth with a rich texture that is lively and rich with vinous notes. There is well-balanced pepper with oak spice.
With a little water: It enhances the sweetness and rounds off the spicy heat a bit.
Aftertaste: Lang with chili-spicy and appetizingly drying, with lingering pepper.
Legend:
Legend has it that Clynelish was once lashed by an epic blizzard. The unnatural cold of the storm put precious dishes at risk of certain destruction. Their contents froze in the glacial winds until a mysterious feline creature silently appeared. Impenetrable to the bitter temperatures, it turned its hypnotic golden eyes on the dishes, wrapping them in a cocoon of magical warmth. The saved oak transformed with rare depths of mysterious and glowing spices, supported from the cold forever.
Retreating to a wild beauty, into the thorn-filled forests of the Highlands, Clynelish is a distillery even more remote than most. It is also the natural habitat of the elusive Scottish wildcat, Felix Sylvestris. Few of these elusive creatures remain and are rarely seen, but the wildcat symbol is emblazoned on the Clynelish Distillery, guarding it forever.
Clynelish 12 Year 2022 is a limited release and from the annual rare collection of whisky, with natural cask strength from the Diageo distilleries.
Bright as a golden eye, amid the light, this Clynelish shows a spicier side of its bright fruitiness and waxy texture. The rich liquid glows with complex aromas of fruit, herbs and deeper, fragrant oak spice. The smooth texture and rich, vinous flavors sizzle with peppery spice after an extended secondary maturation in Pedro Ximenez/Oloroso casks. A single malt as rare and elusive as its mysterious guardian.
