About the Product

Château de Cayx, located in the heart of the Cahors district, is an impressive wine château with a history stretching back to the 15th century. Purchased by Her Majesty Queen Margrethe II and the Prince Consort, born Henri de Laborde de Monpezat, in 1974, the castle has undergone significant renovations during their ownership. The prince's consort, who had a deep connection to the area. And was a passionate art lover, contributed to creating and preserving the castle's authentic architectural heritage.

Château de Cayx appears today as a beautiful residence from the 18th century. With four round towers and an impressive corner tower that dominates the structure. In front of the southern facade, a large terrace stretches out towards the surrounding vineyards, which are cultivated with care and respect for the environment. The spelling of the place name Caïx has changed over the centuries. But Prince Henrik chose "Cayx", an easier-to-pronounce variant, as he wanted to avoid an incorrect diphthong of the French phoneme "ai".

Renowned for its excellent wines, Château de Cayx has undergone a remarkable transformation since 2009 under the leadership of oenologist and winemaker Alexandre Gélis. Through a dedicated collaboration with the prince consort, Gélis has managed to improve and refine the castle's wines. Now considered benchmarks in the wine world.
