The Champagne Millesime 2004 Comte de Marne cuvées are the top series from Charles Mignon. The name comes from an old nobleman who married into the Mignon family in 1893 and in 1998 Mignon started production of this series in his honour. All the wines in this series are made with the best selected grapes, from the best plots and vinified under close supervision. All wines are bottled in heavy antique bottles with individual numbering. Grand Cru is a designation that in Champagne is assigned to the individual fields. Fields are awarded points for their excellence within various sub-categories, from slope degree, hours of sunshine and grape variety to yield. Only very few fields are awarded the maximum 100% required to be Grand Cru. The level below this is called Premier Cru and covers fields with a minimum of 95%.
