ORKNEY GROWN BERE BARLEY
Barley dates back to the beginnings of Scottish agriculture and is one of the most fascinating and genetically diverse grains still grown today. In addition to having a unique flavor, the ancient strain builds resilience and adds variety to barley growing. And at Bruichladdich Distillery, they recognize that genetic diversity is essential for future-proof land management. They have been working with the University of the Highlands and Islands Agronomy Institute since 2005 to reintroduce Bere barley to the whiskey industry.
About the distillery
Bruichladdich is a prominent Scottish distillery located on the scenic island of Islay and has a remarkable history in whiskey production. Founded in 1881, the distillery has achieved a unique status in the world of whiskey by combining tradition with innovation.
Their Scottish malted barley and the pure spring water from Davelly are carefully used to create a taste experience that reflects the island's unique nature. Bruichladdich's range includes a number of whiskey types. From light and delicate to smoky and complex, offering something for every taste and a wide audience of whiskey enthusiasts.
A particular highlight of Bruichladdich's portfolio is the Octomore range. Octomore is known for its extremely high peat concentration, measured in ppm (parts per million), which gives the whiskey a deeply intense smoky flavor. This series is one of the world's most smoked and is a tribute to the distillery's bold approach to whiskey production.
Bruichladdich has also demonstrated a commitment to sustainability by reducing the environmental impact of their production and promoting the use of natural ingredients.
With their passion for quality and innovation, Bruichladdich has established itself as a trusted figure in Scotch whiskey culture. Their variety of whiskies, including the unique Octomore range, continues to impress and inspire both seasoned and new whiskey enthusiasts.
