Distillery whiskey

BenRiach 21 years made in a combination of four different cask types. Bourbon, Virgin Oak, Pedro Ximenez sherry casks and red wine casks are created by master blender Racel Barrie.

Scent: Delicious almost pure summer fruit compote with notes of ginger in the background.
Taste: Summer of vanilla and cinnamon with red fruits and lemon peel with honey malt.
Aftertaste: Long with sweetness and persistent with honey and malted barley with notes of icing sugar.

The whiskey from these four cask types is selected and blended by BenRiach's Master Blender Rachel Barrie. She has created a fantastically balanced malt, where each cask type adds unique notes to the overall taste experience. There is plenty of vanilla, chocolate and red fruits developing in the glass along with BenRiach's typical sweet barley and fruity style.

BenRiach 21 Years Old is, among other things, was awarded a silver medal at the "International Wine & Spirit Competition" in 2017.

The distillery:

In 1897, John Duff began building the BenRiach distillery. Upon completion, the distillery was simply called Longmorn no. 2. which John Duff also owned. Both distilleries drew water from the same source and they were connected by a railway which transported barley, coal, malt and casks between the distilleries. at the end of the 19th century, the whiskey industry went into the black, due to excessive overproduction, John Duff was declared bankrupt.

A full 65 years passed before BenRiach came into production again. However, the malting floors were still used at BenRiach throughout the shutdown period. This is where barley was malted for production at Longmorn, in fact right up until 1998.

Glenlivet Distillers Ltd:

Bought the distillery in 1960 and after a modernization it reopened in 1965, exactly 65 years after it had been closed due to the crisis in the whiskey industry. In 1978 the Seagram group bought BenRiach and in 1985 the number of boiler sets increased to two.

First single malt:

In 1994, the first BenRiach Single Malt came on the market, when the owners launched the "Heritage Selection" with single malts from Longmorn, Glen Keith, Strathisla and Benriach. There was another shutdown and in 1998 the yellow malting was stopped and in 2002 the distillery closed completely.

Starting again:

The distillery was put up for sale in 2004 and it was Billy Walker who bought BenRiach together with his South African investors. Along with the production facilities, Billy took over a large stock of old whiskey from both the 1970s and 1980s.
Production was started immediately after the takeover in 2004 and in September the first casks were filled with newly distilled spirit.

In 2009, BenRiach was named "Whisky Distiller of the Year", and in 2015 as "Global Whiskey Distiller of the Year".
Brown Forman comes to:

As co-owners of "The BenRiach Distillery Company", Billy Walker had a few South African partners who in 2015 wanted to withdraw from the Scotch whiskey industry. They therefore began to look for new owners for the small distillery group. It was to turn out to go very quickly, and in the same year the American spirits group Brown-Forman Corporation took over the group consisting of the three distilleries; GlenDronach, Glenglassaugh and BenRiach.
