Balblair 12 years Single malt Gordon & MacPhail from Highlands is part of the "Bourbon" expression from Gordon & Macphail's Discovery series. 12 year old whiskey from one of the oldest working distilleries in Scotland. Typically, Balblair releases vintage whisky, but for the Gordon & Macphail Discovery series, it has been decided to make a permanent 12 year whisky.

Discovery is a series of whiskeys from the traditional company Gordon & Macphail. The series is intended as an introduction to their portfolio of good quality rich single malt whiskies. There are 3 expressions in the series: Sherry, Smoky and Bourbon.

Scent: Sweet honey and ripe pear mixing with raspberry jam and light citrus.
Taste: Freshly pressed green apple puree, dark chocolate and spices.
Ending: Light and fruity with mint and citrus.

Matured in their own Bourbon casks.

About the Distillery:

Balblair boasts of being one of the oldest working distilleries in Scotland, only narrowly beaten at the finish line (or rather the starting line) by oldies like Bowmore, Glenturret and Strathisla. That is, if one overlooks the inconvenient detail that the current distillery is not the same as the original one. Balblair was founded in 1790 by a Mr. James McKeddy and is today owned by Inver House. The distillery is a little out of the way in the northern Highlands, but that does not deter the approximately 4,000 visitors who visit the small but excellent visitor center each year.

Balblair has for a long time focused on vintage whiskey and therefore does not, as is standard in the industry, release a 10 or 12 year old whisky. In return, the distiller manager selects a few vintages each year as mature and ready, these are bottled unmixed as vintage whisky.

Gordon & MacPhail are to the noble single malt what Lennon & McCartney are to pop music. For more than 100 years, they have insisted on jumping over the highest fence. The inherited sense of selecting the absolute best casks from a wide range of distilleries is practiced today as it was 100 years ago. Once the dish is selected, it is transported to G&M's warehouse in Elgin. Here the cask is looked after and cared for along with thousands of other selected casks until that day in the future, be it five, ten or fifty years down the line, when the whiskey has reached its zenith. Only here are the precious drops bottled.
