About the Distillery:

After an absence of more than 150 years, legal distillation returned to the Isle of Arran in 1995 when the Isle of Arran Distillers distilled the first drops at the Lochranza distillery at 14.29 on 29th June 1995. The last legal distillery on Arran closed in 1836. It was located in the south of the island in Lagg.

The uncommonly beautiful Lochranza Distillery is situated in the village of the same name on the north-west tip of Arran. The whiskey from the distillery matures on the distillery's own grounds in some completely unique surroundings. The whiskey is aged predominantly in sherry and bourbon casks.

The climate on Arran accelerates maturation and Arran whiskey is considered the fastest developing in all of Scotland. This was said to be due to the warm Gulf Stream passing the distillery's warehouses.

The water for the distillery is the lifeblood of the entire company. It comes from the Loch na Davie spring, which is the purest natural spring in all of Scotland.

The whiskey from the distillery is bottled without cold treatment and filtration, and no color of any kind is added. These are the raw drops, developed by the pure nature of the Isle of Arran.

Isle of Arran Distillers remains one of the few privately owned distilleries in Scotland. It is run by a very experienced team. At the helm is the distillery manager, James MacTaggart, who has over 40 years of experience in whiskey production.

Since 1995, the distillery has been recognized several times for its dynamic force in the Scotch whiskey industry. In 2007, Arran was named "Scottish Distiller of the Year" in Whiskey Magazine. In 2005, the distillery won "The Queens Award for Enterprise", which is the biggest and most important honor for business in the whole of Great Britain.

The latest "shot in the arm" at Isle of Arran Distillers is the brand new LAGG distillery, which came into production in 2019. It is located on the southern tip of the island, and malt whiskey is produced here, which can next be described as a contrast to the distillery in Lochranza. The whiskey from LAGG becomes smoky, harsh and a total contrast to the soft and very elegant whiskey produced in the north.
