About the Manufacturer
AH Riise's History
Albert Heinrich Riise was a true adventurer who dedicated his life to discoveries and medical innovation. Born in 1810 and trained as a pharmacist in 1832, in June 1838 he was appointed by the Danish government as exclusive pharmacist on the island of Saint Thomas in the West Indies. With this position came a monopoly on the production of alcohol in the pharmacy, which laid the foundation for AH Riise's later fame.
At first he produced alcohol and bitters as medicine for stomach ailments, but his products, especially rum, soon became popular beyond the medicinal purposes. AH Riise's rum received its first international recognition in 1893 at the World's Fair in Chicago, where his products were awarded a medal.
His son, Valdemar Riise, played an important role in carrying on the business after AH Riise left the West Indies in 1868. Valdemar established close ties with the Danish royal family and in 1879 was appointed Norwegian consul by King Haakon VII, formerly Prince Carl of Denmark.
Over the years, AH Riise's products have won numerous awards and have been sold under different brands. From the famous Navy Rum, which was given to sailors on the frigate Jylland, to modern versions such as the Royal Danish Navy and Family Reserve, AH Riise's name has maintained a proud legacy of quality and innovation.
Today, each bottle not only celebrates the achievements of the past, but also promises new adventures.
