Port Charlotte PMC: 01 2013 9 Years 54.5 %
Port Charlotte PMC: 01 2013 Heavily Peated is a story of place. The 6th release in the Cask Expæoration series. The 2013 vintage has been deeply influenced by the rich fruit-filled oak from the Pomerol wine barrels. The casks have added depth and complexity to this single malt.
Scent: Warm peat smoke and red fruits open the nose and move to stewed pears, melon and a subtle marine note. Delicate floral notes of rose and geranium follow with hints of vanilla, honey, leather and toasted oak coming from the wood. As the spirit opens up further, a subtle spice blend of cloves and ginger emerges with a touch of marzipan.
Taste: Malt sugar and peat smoke complement the enormous viscosity of the liquid that coats the palate. The barrel's influence continues, showing the harmonious balance between oak and fruit with juicy blackberry, plum and aged leather.
Aftertaste: Sweet marine notes, crushed seashells and a touch of lemon peel citrus, nod to the single malt's all-Islay maturation, while Port Charlotte's signature peat smoke lingers.
Whiskey that has matured first in Bourbon casks with the first filling in 2013 and aged for 4 years. In 2017 it was bottled in Pomerol casks and matured there for the next 5 years.
It is the first time that Port Charlotte spirit has matured in Pomerol casks.
Pomerol area:
Home to some of the finest and most sought-after red wines in the world, Pomerol is the smallest of all the major Bordeaux wine appellations. The versatile Port Charlotte spirit has been deeply influenced by the flavors of the oak with notes of black berries, plum and aged leather.
Terroir is crucial to the flavor of our single malt, and the next whiskey in our Port Charlotte cask exploration series, PMC:01, has spent the second half of its maturation journey in Pomerol casks from Bordeaux's Right Bank. A region with a close-knit community and known for its exceptional red wines. It has a distinct sense of place which directly affects the taste of its grapes. The wines speak proudly of their place of origin, taking advantage of the warm climate and the famous blue clay, gravel and sand of the appellation to provide a fresh yet rich silkiness.
