This Batch 1 is the very first Cask Strength whiskey from the Lochlea distillery in Kilmarnock and at the same time the first in the new annual limited edition Cask Strength series. Aged in a combination of first-fill bourbon and refill oloroso casks.
Scent: Spicy fruit compote, candied orange and a hint of tobacco.
Taste: Lots of fruit, with walnut, some cocoa powder and oak vanilla.
Aftertaste: Sticky toffee and sweet spice.
About the Distillery:
At Lochlea, their independent distillery has been quietly producing, casks and maturing their spirits over the past few years. Patiently waiting to share the fruits of their wonderful labor with the rest of the world.
Originally led by the experience and expertise of Head Distillery Malcolm Rennie, and now under the management of former Laphroaig Distillery Manager John Campbell. Having built one of the top ten Scotch brands in the world over the past 27 years, John brings a wealth of knowledge and a burning ambition to help Lochlea fulfill its potential.
And the result? A whiskey to drink. A whiskey that is not just a bottle to be admired, collected or saved. It is a whiskey that should find its home in cocktail cabinets, but also around the campfire. Love, care and attention from field to cask have been paramount in creating this whisky.
The family-run farm grows and harvests their own barley with drafts used to feed local cattle. The water is raised from the aquifers in the limestone deep below the farm. Rooted in Scottish history, we are very proud that Robert Burns called Lochlea home throughout his formative years, from 1777 until his father's death in 1784.
