Raw Cask Rum:
As good as whiskey is, there are other spirits to discover. In recent years we have focused on developing a unique range of rums under our Raw Cask brand. Like our Raw Cask whiskies, every bottle offers the fullest possible cask flavour. Like whisky, the Raw Cask rum range shares the same broad spectrum of exquisite flavours.
Blackadder:
Is a family run independent bottling company, established in 1995 by Robin Tucek. Robin runs the business with his son, Michael, and daughter, Hannah. Originally whiskey bottlers, they have evolved their range to include other spirits including rum and gin.
All Blackadder whiskeys are bottled as single casks and most at cask strength. They never chill filter or color their whiskey. Signature brand is Raw Cask – complete cask whiskeys bottled containing cask sediment.
Robin Tucek:
He initially worked as a magazine journalist; first in TV, sports, music. (He is probably the only whiskey bottler to have been driven through London in Rod Stewart's car – with Rod Stewart driving – or to have met and interviewed Abba; he then went on to publish the trade drinks, Drinks International.
Robin later moved into drinks PR in the UK (including The Macallan) before founding his own specialist drinks PR firm.
Founded Master of Malt and Malt Whiskey Association in 1988. Left Master of Malt 1995 to establish Blackadder International.
Created and developed the Blackadder Raw Cask range which was introduced in the year 2000.
Robin also established and operates the following specialist single cask whiskey brands, all of which, like Blackadder, are non-chill filtered and bottled without caramel color or flavourings:
Michael Tucek:
After a career as a chef, working in top restaurants in London, had a serious accident in 2013. He was knocked down by a scooter by a drunk driver while on holiday in Turkey. He was hospitalized for six weeks and with his body full of metal. He found himself unable to stand for long periods of time and no longer had the dexterity in his hands and wrists needed in a professional kitchen.
Michael's new journey:
In 2014 he made the decision to hang up his apron and plunge into the wonderful world of Blackadder. There must be some magic in it because his father was around the same age when he began his whiskey journey.
Michael grew up around whisky, and since his late teenage years enjoyed whisky, coming to the company has always interested him, especially for the process and history of distillation and the magic that occurs between spirit and cask.
The many years of working in kitchens and the aromas and tastes that are experienced have given him a keen sense of tasting and savoring whisky. He doesn't make fancy, long-winded tasting notes. instead, he tries to encapsulate aroma, taste and finish as succinctly as possible – nothing more, nothing less.
Hannah Tucek:
She started working for the family business before she even knew what whiskey was. She helped her parents at home as a youngster, organizing their stock of whiskey and packing samples. She remembers there was whiskey everywhere in their house. It took time for Hannah to appreciate whiskey. Growing up, you always hate the smell of it. She thought the smell was seeping out of the walls of their house. However, she can remember the moment that changed her holding to whiskey.
Her father Robin gave her a 30-year-old Glen Ord. It was here that un was sold by the complexity of the spirit, the richness, yet so smooth. From then on, she really began to appreciate whiskey. Robin was of course very amused that it was an expensive whiskey that she liked.
All her taste buds have since evolved and enjoy all types of whiskey today. She admits that she has been very spoiled working for Blackadder and getting to try – and appreciate – a lot of extremely good whisky. All of them that have not been cooled or otherwise heavily filtered. It's just pure, unadulterated spirit at its best.
