Black Snake Vat No. 17 Third Venom Celebrating 25 years of Blackadder

The single malt bottle in March 2021 from the series Blackadder makes without a distillery name, a series by name which is also found under black snake.

Black Snake Vat No. 17 – Black snake – is 59.6 % of the bottle with a total of 376 bottles.

Manufacturing:

Black Snake Vat No. 17 is made from a Vatting of dishes finished in a Single Butt. It starts its life in first-fill ex-Bourbon casks. Blackadder then puts three of them into new Oloroso or PX casks and leaves them for about a year for further maturation before bottling two-thirds of the cask. Blackadder calls these “Vats” as they are a sort of mini Solera.

After each bottling, we add two more previous Bourbon casks, always of the same whiskey, and leave for about another year before bottling two-thirds of the liquid again. All future bottlings from each vat of Black Snake will therefore contain some spirit that was in previous expressions from Butt. From time to time the fluid is renewed. Each edition of the bottling of Black Snake is called "Venom", as in a snake venom. A touch of Blackadder humor! The first bottling from each vessel is called “First Venom”,

Blackadder:

Is a family run independent bottling company, established in 1995 by Robin Tucek. Robin runs the business with his son, Michael, and daughter, Hannah. Originally whiskey bottlers, they have evolved their range to include other spirits including rum and gin.
All Blackadder whiskeys are bottled as single casks and most at cask strength. They never chill filter or color their whiskey. Signature brand is Raw Cask – complete cask whiskeys bottled containing cask sediment.
