Ballechin 10 years Heavily Peated
This Ballechin 10 years bottling is predominantly from ex Bourbon casks with a generous top dressing of ex Oloroso Sherry casks to create extra depth and greater complexity. It is bottled with 46% without chill filtration to preserve the character of the real cask.
Scent: Herbs that are grassy with sweetened smoke.
Taste: Chocolate and oak over spicy earthy smoke with great complexity that rolls over the tongue.
Aftertaste: Smoldering burnt heather on the Highland Hills
Ballechin is the highly dry distillation they have been making at Edradour Distillery since 2003.
Ballachin 10 years is distilled using barley that has been peated to a level of no less than 50 ppm.
The name Ballechin originates from a college in Perthshire that sadly closed its doors in 1927. There, Alfred Barnard, cataloging all the distilleries in Britain in the 1880s, reported experiencing a peated whisky.
