Scarabus 10 Year 46 % is a lovely little series of Islay Single Malts, all bottled by Hunter Laing & Co.
The 10-year-old Scarabus is a hefty Islay. It is composed of whiskey from casks selected from one – and only one – distillery on Islay. When you taste, you can probably guess which distillery it is. The taste does not deny itself. It is a big well-kept secret where the lovely whiskey is distilled.
Taste experience: The taste is rich, earthy and with lots of peat smoke, leather and menthol, all softened with a delicious note of treacle and honey. The aftertaste is long, smooth and seductive.
Scarabus 10 years 46 % a really nice Islay dram. A hit for everyone who loves Islaymalt.
Hunter Laing & Company LTD:
Is one half of the former Douglas Laing & Co Ltd in Glasgow. In the spring of 2013, brothers Fred and Stewart Laing went their separate ways to pursue different business concepts separately. Fred wanted to involve his daughter in the business. Stewart's two boys were ready behind the scenes to get involved in the family business. The brothers therefore believed that it was the most appropriate solution to split the company in two. They shared the warehouse of whisky, the good employees and the many associated brands and bottling series.
Hunter Laing has established itself in Glasgow at Park Circus, where offices and tasting facilities have been set up in some stunning surroundings. Hunter Laing took over the company's bottling facilities in Glasgow and is thus in control of the entire process from cask to bottle.
Hunter Laing's founder, Stewart Laing, started in the whiskey business almost 50 years ago, working for his father, Frederick, as a young man. First as a blender, but later as a bottler of some of the most valued and rare single malt whiskeys from various distilleries in Scotland. Stewart learned the whiskey industry the hard way. He started as an apprentice at the Bruichladdich distillery on Islay before joining his father's export business. Stewart traveled the world to sell the company's brands. Blends, which were often "bestsellers" in the company's most important markets in Asia and South America. To create these blends, Frederick acquired hundreds of whiskey casks from distilleries throughout Scotland, many of which have unfortunately long since closed down and gone into oblivion. However, many of these barrels are still in stock at Hunter Laing. Stewart has now been joined in the company by his sons Scott and Andrew.
Hunter Laing, who also uses the synonym Langside Distillers, bottles i.a. the series Old & Rare, Old Malt Cask, Hepburn's Choice, the grain series Sovereign as well as a wide range of blended malts and blended whiskies. And it's not going to stop here. The company, and especially the two sons Scott and Andrew, have big plans for the future.
