Bodegas CARO Petit Caro

Petit Caro from Bodegas CARO is the little brother of Caro and is somewhat in the same style as Caro, but it is its own. Incredibly delicious and well-balanced with an elegant blend of Malbec and Cabernet Sauvignon grapes with intense notes of white flowers and red cherries in the aroma, with hints of cloves and delicious spices in the taste.

Scent: Intense with notes of white flowers, red cherries and figs.
Taste: Juicy and complex with hints of cloves and other spices. Very well-balanced and elegant wine which is a good example of how Malbec and Cabernet Sauvignon can be put together.
Serving temperature: 15-17°C

The wine:

The CARO Petit Malbec Cabernet Sauvignon grapes come from selected fields with old vines in Lujan de Cuyo just outside Mendoza and from Altamira, which is a little further south.

In Lujan, the soil varies quite a lot depending on how close the vineyards are to the mountains or the Mendoza River, but mostly the soil has alluvial layers of loam, rock and gravel. In Altamira, the vineyards are located 1000 meters above sea level on the old river bank of the Tunuyan River. The grapes are harvested by hand, then sorted, de-stemmed and crushed before fermentation. Maceration takes place in the traditional way, and the wine is lightly pumped over the must to ensure gentle extraction of flavor and color.

About the Vinhuset:

In 1999, a team from Domaines Barons de Rothschild (Lafite) came with Christophe Salin at the head; traveling back from Los Vascos in Chile towards France to Mendoza in Argentina. The team was not looking for a new partner in South America. But from a mutual acquaintance they had heard the rumor that had spread all over the world like a rumor about Nicolas Catena's Argentine wine. They wanted to meet him.

Nicolas organized a vertical tasting for them with Cabernet Sauvignon and Malbec. When Christophe tasted the 1993 Catena Cabernet Sauvignon, he was struck by the wine's elegance, and at the same time the interest in trying Malbec was piqued. During visits to various wineries, Nicolas revealed his great admiration for Lafite to Christophe. It was the beginning of a friendship based on mutual respect and admiration.
