Glenrothes 12 Year Speyside Single Malt 40%

This 12 year old Speyside Single Malt whiskey really shows what The Glenrothes' "House whisky" can do. All the different flavors come from a balance of both American and European sherry casks, which together give a soft and persistent sweetness. It is aged exclusively in sherry casks of both American and European oak.

There is a mixture of casks filled for the first time and of refill casks to get a balanced whisky.

Scent: Light notes of banana and vanilla
Taste: You can clearly taste banana mixed with fresh lemon and melon, which in turn gives a hint of cinnamon.
Aftertaste: Really long and sweet with light spice and melon.

The Soleo Collection from The Glenrothes is a new range with clear history and direction, moving away from vintages focused on age statements.

All expressions in the series are matured in 100% sherry casks to give a rich and full-bodied experience. All Glenrothes whiskeys are 100% natural colours. .

About the Distillery:

Glenrothes was built in 1878. And in the 1980s, when most distilleries were ailing and many put out the fire under the boilers for good, Glenrothes was thriving and expanded twice – first they went from 6 to 8 boilers, and then from 8 to 10.

The whiskey is a main ingredient in the blended Cutty Sark, but Glenrothes has recently had a greater and greater focus on single malt.

Since 2010, the brand has been owned by Berry Bros. & Rudd, which is probably the world's oldest wine and spirits retailer. The traditional shop at St. James Street 3 in London is a pilgrimage destination for alco geeks the world over, and the same philosophy of integrity, quality and patience that has been at the heart of their 300-year-old wine business is now an us at Glenrothes. It bodes well for the future.
