Diageo has just launched their 2024 Special Releases Single Malt Scotch Whiskey collection, consisting of eight unique whiskeys under the theme “Spirited Xchange 2.0.” The collection highlights the fusion of different cultures through innovative flavor profiles and modern techniques. This is the second time the theme “Spirited Xchange” has been used. And it builds on a more than 20-year tradition of rare and exclusive whiskey releases.

Master Blender Dr. Stuart Morrison has created the collection, which includes eight rare and collectable single malts. Several of which explore new, surprising flavor combinations. Two of the highlights of the year include Lagavulin “Fireside Tales” aged 12 years and Oban “Coastal Orchard” aged 10 years. Aged in ex-bourbon and refill casks, Lagavulin offers a softer, sweeter version of the distillery's signature smoky flavor, while Oban presents a fine balance between fruity and floral notes.

The collection also features exciting innovations such as Mortlach “Midnight Dusk,” matured in both Ramandolo white wine and Sangiovese red wine casks, giving a whole new dimension to the whiskey's umami flavor. Talisker “Tidal Churn” highlights the distillery's maritime heritage through a unique stone rotation method that reveals sweet notes of pear and apple beneath the typical smoke. Diageo describes the collection as a tribute to curiosity and creativity, where new maturation methods and barrel combinations create unexpected and exciting taste experiences. In addition to the innovative whiskies, the collection is accompanied by visual narratives created by renowned photographers. Highlighting the special character of each whiskey and the overall conceptual vision behind “Spirited Xchange 2.0.”
