Niepoort Bioma Crusted Vinha Velha is dark red with good depth at the edge. A lively wine that is beginning to show some bottle age. Definitely drinkable now, but it can be stored for decades.

Scent: Cherries and dark plums together with fine mint and licorice notes.
Taste: Here, the well-integrated tannins dominate together with nicely developed fruit, the taste lasts a long time.
Server for: Aperitif, chocolate desserts, dark chocolate, Cheddar and Gouda cheeses. Spicy dishes with red meat, lamb, veal, pepper steak and game.

Crusted Port:

The majority of this Crusted Port was bottled in December 2014 and comes from various vineyards around the Niepoort vineyard in the Vale de Mendiz as well as from old vineyards in the Pinhao Valley.
The grapes themselves were harvested in 2012 and 2013.
The grapes are trampled with 100 % stems in lagares in Vale de Mendiz. Subsequently stored in large old wooden vessels in the cellar of Vila Nova de Gaia.
The actual production was small with only 10,000 litres.
Bottled in December 2014 with 7,500 bottles.

The grapes used for this Crusted are Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca, Tinto Cao, Tinta Francisca, Tinta Amarela, Sousao, Tinta Roriz and other local grapes.

Niepoort:

Niepoort can do more than just make port wine. They have 62 hectares of organic vineyards in the Douro, divided between Quinta de Nápoles and Quinta do Carril, an adjacent property purchased by the family in 1988. Thanks to its 60-year-old vines, it is Quinta do Carril that supplies the grapes for prestigious wines such as “Batuta ”, “Redoma”, “Bioma”, “Vertente” and “Robustus”. In fact, “Robustus” was the first red table wine produced by Niepoort, in 1990. The wine was never released on the market, but remains one of the company's great icons.
